Dumped Damian last night. Talked a bit about his addiction and his lack of enthusiasm for life. His problem with me is that I move from one subject to another too quickly in conversation, I hate that he couldn't keep up. XD We're not friends either, I don't want that any more...fixer upper lazy not being bothered even with help and would rather sit around being negative on acid sort.
:o)

Leaving for NZ in a few hours *SQUEE* though at the moment all I have is the icky feeling in my stomach I get every time I fly because I hate it. I've done it so much recently I'm usually okay with it once I'm ON the plane, it's just the lead up to it that makes me feel ill.
BUT at the end of it there will be lovely people and THEN a terrifying, soul-quaking interview, and then more lovely people. So worth it.
Here goes nothing.

| Back to School |
[12 Nov 2009|07:53am] |
Briar went back to school this morning. Thank goodness. She's balking at everything and just about impossible to deal with.
We did have a good day yesterday. She was much better, so I decided we could go to Chuck E Cheese's. I usually pretty much dress her in the mornings because it's so early and there's a time element. I asked her to get dressed yesterday while I was getting ready to go and she wouldn't even try to do it herself. So we had a row about that and we'll be allowing the extra time from now on for her to dress herself--or else. A lot of "or else" going on these days. Anyway, once we got out of the house, it was a nice day. She had a good time but was ready to go after a few hours, during which I smocked a dress front and started another one. We stopped into Game Haven which is next door just to look around--not cheap. Then she was more than willing to go to the fabric store with me.
She was better there than she usually is, which was good as it was really busy and they didn't have near enough help-- hear that Hancock Fabric idiots? After closing all three stores in the Knoxville area and leaving us with nothing but JoAnn's they are slammed and can't keep up with all the customers down here where people actually sew and craft.
Anyway, we also stopped by the grocery store for some celery and the gas station so I can get into town this morning for the miniatures meeting.
Got home and started supper, did kitchen chores I had been putting off and swept the house, played Sims with B after supper, more after she went to bed, and cleaned up the bathroom before I went to bed. I was feeling really good yesterday.
I have got new doll withdrawl BAAAADDD. I've been combing the DoA Marketplace for a good bargain that I can't really afford anyway. Some of the pricier ones are calling me. I've seen a few Unoas approaching reasonable--for Unoas. And then yesterday Dollfair announced a whole bunch of stuff from Narindoll including the fact that they will have urethane resin for the first time in a year. One of the things that keeps me safe from buying a Narae (that's the Narindoll girl) or a Narae/Narin couple (girl/boy, right?) is that I didn't want french resin. Now I'm kind of feeling like I need to swoop in and buy the pair before the urethane goes away again (even though they say they plan to have it available in the future). You know, if you've got $500 budgeted for my Christmas gift, I do have my option choices noted on my Amazon wishlist.
Anyway, I said I've got the mini thing today so I really need to get going. I often feel like I'm the only person in this region who goes out with wet hair. Mr. Les says it's because other people s-t-y-l-e their hair. Huh. Go figure.

The Dance
They entered the place of shining white lights on each others arms. Though they could not see where the music came, they could hear the first discordant notes coming from the right of them. The music started slow.
The two little girls rounded onto the dance floor. Pastel dresses made of taffeta and lace moved in wide circles around them. A waltz came out of the discordant music. The taller of the two girls took the hand of the other and began to lead her around the floor. This dance was slow, in time with the music. The place was shining so brightly; they could not see if they had earned any spectators.
Around and around they moved, in countless circles of slow moving steps. Pink and purple glitter painted the eyes and cheeks of both girls, sparkling as they grinned. A smaller circle was formed within the circle of their own arms. Then the music picked up without pause or warning.
Two little girls spun away from each other, bodies already moving in time with the vibration of a new beat. Cheeky eyes gazed out towards an audience that they had attracted, inviting the others to join even as they shrugged their shoulders to relieve themselves of a fabric that had become heavy and cloying.
The dresses shifted from their shoulders, slipping over bust and hips to betray dark and bold colours of shifts underneath. Bright grins from the girls became contagious as nearby creatures of fae enthusiastically came into the stone circle to join the dance.

Happy November, oh internet of my heart. I have many exciting things to tell you.
The first and most important is a very happy thing. On Friday I went onto twitter, where I am www.twitter.com/sarahreesbrenna, as an oppressive twitter system denies me my last, delicious 'n.' And I saw people were congratulating me.
Since I had not even managed to get dressed for the day and was indeed cocooned in a fuzzy blanket, this struck me as odd.
When someone told me that The Demon's Lexicon had been nominated for a Carnegie award, I became hopelessly entangled in my blanket and almost fell down.
The Carnegie Medal is the British equivalent of the Newbery and the National Book Award. Richard Adams won it for Watership Down. Margaret Mahy, being a writing goddess, has won it twice. It is indeed an honour to be nominated, especially in the company of such people as Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Laurie Halse Anderson, and R.J. Anderson for her awesome book Knife.
When you have a book out, you spend a lot of time trying to find out what people think. A bad internet review can make you lie down in the floor cuddling a cup of hot chocolate and murmuring 'You are my only friend, Mr Cuplington.' (All right, maybe that's just me.) So something like this just transformed my day, and made me wander around in a daze of joy all weekend.
My book. Nominated for a Carnegie. Mr Cuplington and I are so happy.
In other news, Cassandra Clare's lovely fansite Mundie Moms have been so very kind as to make Demon's Lexicon their Book of the Month. There's a forum up where people are already discussing it, and on November the 12th, 9 PM EST, there will be an online chat.
Here is the link to the chat now - hope to see some of you at the chat in an hour and a half!
And a present for you all: here is the first chapter of the second book, The Demon's Covenant, which will also be up on the website very soon. I hope you enjoy!

Hey folks!Lots of news to pass on today
Belfire Press was born of many conversations between myself (Jodi Lee) and my partners, Louise Bohmer and Jordan Martindale, much like the beginning of The New Bedlam Project. We bounced the ideas and plans off a couple of authors we’d worked with in the past and presently. The answers to ‘Can we do it? Should we do it?’ were a resounding Yes.
On October 31st, 2009 we announced the formation of Belfire Press, a micro-press owned and operated by a bunch of crazy Canadians. Our first title will release on January 1st, 2010, to be followed by our grand opening and launch novel on May 1st. It is our hope to have a title to release every six weeks from then on, publishing nine titles per year.
We seek to publish novels, works of non-fiction and the occasional anthology or collection in both print and e-book. Depending on the project and scope, we may offer a title in hardcover, paperback and several e-book formats, or paperback alone. If a title is to be released in multiple formats, it will be done so simultaneously, with the exception of hardcover.
And yes, we will be using Print on Demand as well as small runs.
Our titles will be available on our website, through Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other outlets as we add them to the distribution list.
Authors with accepted titles can expect two rounds of edits – a thorough, cooperative substantive edit followed by a copyedit and author proof. Our editors will work with the author to make the editing process a relatively pleasant experience. An exclusive cover will be designed by either a member of our staff, or we will sub-contract to a noted cover artist with whom we’ve worked before.
We will provide a small package of promotional items which may include posters, bookmarks, postcards, cover plates and informative cards. We will also put together a press package and provide a limited number of bound and unlimited electronic ARCs for confirmed reviewers and awards competitions.
Belfire Press has specific genres we seek to publish, and are certainly interested in those referred to as ‘cross-genre.’ For novels of other genres not listed in our guidelines, we’ve listed a handful of other small press companies that do look for them.
Re-post from Belfire Press http://www.belfirepress.com
Sometime in 2006, two writers spoke in hurried whispers… what could cause the wretched insomnia that had taken them over, compelling them to write words of horrors never seen, only imagined? What could keep them from finishing their works, from containing the monsters within, from binding them with one simple word? How could they find their way out of the darkness they called home…into a darkness of release at Morpheus’ hands?
An idea was born that night. It grew into one monster after another until finally it has broken free.
Featuring stories by M.R. Sellars, Geoffrey Girard, Angela Gray, Ann Tupek, Bruce Barber, Camille Alexa, Jeff Parish, Kevin J. Hurtack, Donna Shelton, David de Beer, Louise Bohmer, Brandon Layng with 'Case Files' by Rhada McKai and Jodi Lee and introduction by New York Times Bestselling author, Alethea Kontis.
* * * The first project for Belfire Press will be Courting Morpheus, the long awaited anthology of short stories set in the fictional town of New Bedlam.
“As small towns go, New Bedlam is at once comfortable and familiar, but in the shadows there is something more… something malefic and hungry. Once you open this book, you’ll not be able to put it down, and who knows, perhaps once you’ve finished and set it aside, beyond your own door you’ll discover that you were in New Bedlam all along.” —Bob Freeman, author of Descendant
“Courting Morpheus is a potent, visceral nightmare, and one you don’t want to wake up from.” —Jeremy C. Shipp, author of Vacation, Sheep and Wolves, and Cursed
After a very long wait, Courting Morpheus will see publication in limited edition hardcover January 1st 2010, with trade paperback release February 2nd 2010.
Pre-orders for the limited edition hardcover will begin November 20th.

"We love those beautiful minds left of center smothered in black humor. If that doesn't describe ANDERSEN PRUNTY, we're a monkey flinging poo. His novelssuch as 'The Overwhelming Urge', 'The Sorrow King' and 'The Beard' place him at the top of Bizarro fiction. And he's challenged me to a shovel fight in a gravel pit! Now THAT'S a guest we can't deny."

On the twenty-first hour of the first day of the second week of NaNo, she began to realise this may not have been the best of all of her ideas that day.

LJ deleted most of my post so...poo to LJ... :o/
Went to the museum with Damian today, what a waste of time. He was late because of road work(?) on Burk St. Fair enough that's fine, I had a book and a bench in the shade.
He forgot what I wanted to see even though I had told him in great detail when I asked if he would like to go with me. When he asked what I wanted to see I was so frustrated I put on a fake smile and said "Fish!"
There was apparently a man holding a baby while talking to his friend whilst he had a syringe in his mouth to which Damian deemed appropriate to say with a smile WTF and "Giving drug users a bad name, eh?!" - my reply "Because they need help."
He mocked people going into the rainforest exhibit, the one we were in and I had wanted to visit, for going to see gumtrees in a museum in the city instead of going to the bush.
We were looking at the beetles and butterflies and he said somehting about how it would be much better if you dropped acid because of the iridescent colours.
Basically accused me of lying over putting my head in that bloody dome in the middle of the ant exhibit.
Met up with Chris, Kali and her sister Nicole outside. Nicole doesn't do drugs but Kali after they were talking about it, showed Nicole her bong. That brought on speak like "This is the fun pipe, no fun for you!"
Nicole likes vodka coolers, she had three last night and no pot (omg!) That was an invitation for D and C to say shit like "drinking in the bush waking up with a hang over and lying in your own vomit..drugs so much better"
We left them to go have a snack. My turn!
Why haven't I asked Reed a.k.a. "that bloke" out on a date yet? If he appears to be interested, why do I need to build up confidence first?
Aren't I hot wearing pants under a skirt? Mean while he's wearing a jacket.
My anti depressants don't seem to be working because I still fear things and he can really tell what I used to be like before I went on them. *twitch*
Mim dumped him via text message and he defended her behaviour over the past two weeks. "She's just an old 40 something who wanted a sex fling" Yeah, I had noticed [her only wanting a fling]. That was one of my problems with her. He replied to her "We will always have the facial" Why would you tell the woman who is supposed to be your g/f that when you know she hates the person you're talking about?!
He was high, had the munchies and managed to make his tum tum hurt by eating a sausage roll and a mini cheesecake. Now I'm nit picking...but he was stoned!
There is probably more...Allan, Penny and Toby made my day better. I love you guys!
